Light and lighting - Lighting of work places - Part 1: Indoor work places; German version EN 12464-1:2021


This document specifies lighting requirements for people at indoor workplaces that meet the visual comfort and performance requirements of people with normal or corrected-to-normal vision. All common visual tasks are considered, including those at the display screen equipment (DSE). This document specifies requirements for lighting solutions for most indoor workplaces and their associated surfaces in terms of quantity and quality of lighting. It also provides recommendations for good lighting implementation, including visual and non-visual lighting requirements. This document does not specify lighting requirements relating to the safety and health of workers at work andhas not been prepared within the scope of Article 169 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, although the lighting requirements as specified in this document generally satisfy the requirements relating to safety. NOTE Lighting requirements relating to the safety and health of workers at work may be contained in directives based on Article 169 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, in national legislation of the Member States transposing those directives or in other national legislation of the Member States. This document does not provide specific solutions, nor does it restrict the freedom of designers to explore new techniques or use innovative lighting installations. Lighting may be provided by daylight, electric lighting or a combination of both. This document does not apply to the lighting of outdoor and underground workplaces or to emergency lighting.
